To facilitate the diversification, development and improvement of the tourism product, utilizing an experienced and qualified staff to enhance visitor experience by building consensus and strategic alliances with industry stakeholders in order to engender socioeconomic growth.
The Tourism Product Development Company aims to:
Develop plans and programmes for the improvement of resort areas;
Assist with the improvement of the infrastructure and physical environment of resort towns;
Encourage investment in tourism-related activities;
Establish, inspect and monitor the standards of all entities operating in the tourism sector and;
Create, organize and conduct training programmes which will facilitate human development in the tourism sector
The Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) was established by the Government of Jamaica in 1996 as a limited liability company with a mandate to develop and improve the tourism product. In addition to the head office located on the 4th Floor of the Tourism Centre at 64 Knutsford Boulevard, there are three regional offices – Ocho Rios, Montego Bay and Negril.
In 2004 the company underwent a major restructuring exercise resulting in a clearer more proactive mandate aimed at leading the industry in a spirit of partnership. The company now operates in a facilitatory mode ensuring that the physical, social and environmental aspects of the Resort Areas and their offerings are of a standard conducive to a great vacation experience. Additionally, TPDCo supports and enhances the development of community-based tourism related projects through its entrepreneurship programmes and through its Tourism for Prosperity Programme.
TPDCo, through its various departments, works closely with all operators of tourism- related facilities promoting the attributes of a quality product, monitoring same and engaging the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) in a continuous effort to satisfy consumer demand and expectations. The Agency also facilitates the development of tourism-related projects by providing expertise and consultations. The company adopts, sets and promotes standards, guidelines and checklists for the industry in order to attain global competitiveness.
