Tourism Policy & Monitoring

The Tourism Policy and Monitoring Division (TPMD) is responsible for the review and development  of tourism policies aimed at enhancing the Ministry’s efficiency in the delivery of goods and services that will maximize the social and economic benefits within the tourism sector and the wider Jamaica.  This includes development and implementation of a monitoring and evaluation framework to measure the effectiveness of the policies and strategies implemented against the intended objectives and outcomes, thus ensuring an internationally competitive and sustainable tourism product. The TPMD liaises with other MDAs to mainstream tourism issues into the sectoral policies and strategies of other Ministries.

The TPMD also provides programme direction and project management support for sustainable tourism activities to include Disaster Risk Management, Environmental Management and Sustainable Community Tourism. It also provides oversight to bilateral agreements and other international relations impacting tourism.  The TMPD is responsible for Tourism Relations and Facilitation activities, which support tourism enterprises at all levels. This activity also supports the processing of work permit applications for the tourism sector, duty concession incentives for the ground transportation sub-sector and registration and monitoring of travel agencies.
