OBJECTIVE OF ORGANIZATION/ DEPARTMENT/ SECTION/UNIT

To contribute to increased visitor arrivals to Jamaica through:

  1. Promotion of increased  of visitors to Jamaica
  2. Support for tour operators serving Jamaica
  3. Operating in-house charters from selected gateways
  4. Supporting airlift from targeted emerging markets

 

OBJECTIVE / SUMMARY FOR POSITION

The Manager Cruise Tourism is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing projects and programmes to build cruise tourism in Jamaica.

 

KEY OUTPUTS

  1.  Cruise tourism plans developed
  2. A robust cruise conversion prepared
  3. Contacts with Cruise executive maintained
  4. Cruise market analysis conducted
  5. Database on cruise passenger activity and statistics established
  6. “Country profile” of  cruise tourism market and its visitors maintained

 

MAJOR  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement strategies; develop action plans, programmes and budgets to facilitate the promotion of increased cruise passenger visitors, in keeping with agreed strategic objectives.
  • Develop a cruise conversion that will be facilitated at all cruise port.
  • Establish and maintain active contacts with cruise lines executives/stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular liaison with all cruise lines serving Jamaica to promote continued interest and cooperation.
  • Liaise with the Port Authority of Jamaica to negotiate with cruise lines to secure additional calls at ports in Jamaica.
  • In collaboration with Port Authority of Jamaica and JTB monitor the regional and international landscape and provide advice and reports on current trends and threats that may prevail
  • Liaise with agencies of the Ministry of Tourism to assess existing, create new and coordinate activities/programmes to enhance the cruise passenger experience.
  • Make recommendation in order to create packages and special departures for Jamaica to direct sales to consumers.
  • Schedule and conduct regular sales calls/visit to cruise lines.
  • Liaise with agencies of the Ministry of Tourism to ensure consistent delivery of  a positive shore side experience for visitors.
  • Provide analysis on how consumers travel and how they identify and select the travel services they purchase.
  • Provide weekly and monthly activity reports on cruise passenger arrivals and compile weekly cruise passenger number
  • Liaise with the JTB on a timely basis to determine trends and changes, and to obtain any other information relevant to cruise passengers.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Budget.
  • Attend and participate in corporate planning meetings/seminars arranged by JamVac/JTB/MOT/Port Authority of Jamaica/ Transport Ministry, etal
  • Undertake any other related duties that may be assigned by the Minister, Chairman and Executive Director.

  • Maintain and increase market share  of  cruise visitors  to Jamaica;
  • Timely preparation of required reports;

Technical

  • Sound knowledge of the Travel and Tourism marketing – national, regional and international.
  • Sound  Marketing/Sales, with proven ability to  execute effective marketing programmes;
  • Excellent  rapport with the travel and tourism market and industry stakeholders in the Public and Private sectors;

 

Decisions that must be referred to supervisor:

  • Issues that may have financial, political or commercial implications  
  • Broad policy guidelines and recommendations to Executive Director
  • Negotiation of agreements with cruise executive/stakeholder
  • Contract services and/or approve expenditures

 

USUAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The incumbent is required to work in excess of normal working hours from time to time to achieve set deadlines.
  • Incumbent may be required to undertake extensive  local travel

 

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Postgraduate or professional qualifications in  Marketing;
  • Minimum of  Five (5) years experience  in a marketing environment in Tourism/Hospitality Management  on regional/ international platform

OR

  • Bachelor Degree in Tourism/Hospitality Management,  Business Administration,  ( marketing emphasis) or related discipline;
  • Minimum of Ten (10) years experience in Marketing, Tourism on a regional/ international platform.

Any other combination of qualification & experience

 

REMUNERATION

Salary (per annum) in the range of $4,349,768.00 - $5,219,723.00 per annum

Fixed Travelling: $1,341,624.00 per annum
